The Krishna Janmashtami festival celebrated in the memory of birth of Lord
Krishna, one of the most popular deities worshipped by Hindus. As per history
and holy scriptures he was in 3228 BC. His birthday is celebrated for eight
days after Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrating the bond between brothers
and sisters. This year Hindu community will celebrate 5249th Birth Anniversary
of Lord Krishnan. Krishna Janmashtami is also known as Krishnashtami,
Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti and Sree Jayanthi.
Janmastami is a festival celebrated on the birthday Lord Krishna which is on the 8th day of dark fortnight in the month of Bhadon .This year Janmastami will be celebrated on 18 August to 19 August.
Krishna is considered as the perfect form (Avatar) of Lord Vishnu. On Janmastami the devotees fast for whole day , sing devotional songs, bathe Krishna’s sculptures. In the birthplace of Krishna which is Vrindavan and Mathura devotees often perform Raasleela ( act of Krishna’s life ) which is often greeted by huge and accompanied by singing and dancing.
The famous celebration is Dahi Handi indicating the habit of Lord Krishna’s butter stealing.
